Privacy, communications and website terms
Lumos CPA Professional Corporation. Effective October 9, 2026.
This page explains how Lumos CPA Professional Corporation (“Lumos CPA”, “we”, “us”) handles personal information and electronic messages, and the terms for using this website. It also applies to MD Launch, a service line of Lumos CPA, and to mdlaunch.ca.
1. Who is responsible
Lumos CPA Professional Corporation is responsible for the personal information we collect. Our privacy contact is Umar Choudhry, Principal. You can reach us at info@lumoscpa.co or (905) 785-2785.
2. What we collect
- Information you give us: your name, email address, phone number, the services you are interested in, and anything you choose to include when you book a meeting, send an email or call us.
- Technical information: basic data such as your browser type, device, pages viewed and approximate location, collected through standard web server logs and the tools described in section 5.
Please do not send sensitive information through the website. Do not include your Social Insurance Number, banking details, tax returns or other confidential documents when booking a meeting or sending a first email. If we work together, we will set up a secure way to exchange documents.
3. Why we collect it
- To respond to your inquiry and schedule meetings.
- To assess whether and how we can help you, and to provide our services if you become a client.
- To meet our legal, tax and professional obligations, including record-keeping and client identification requirements.
- To improve this website and, where you have agreed or the law allows, to send you information about our services.
4. Consent
By booking a meeting, contacting us or otherwise giving us your information, you agree that we may collect, use and keep it for the purposes above. You can withdraw your consent at any time, subject to legal and professional requirements, by contacting us. If you withdraw consent, we may not be able to continue providing some services.
5. Tools and service providers
We use trusted third parties to run this website and our practice. They may process your information on our behalf, and some of them store data outside Canada, including in the United States. Information held in another country may be accessible to courts and authorities there under local law.
- HubSpot for online meeting scheduling, forms and contact records. HubSpot may use cookies or similar technology on pages where its tools appear.
- Website hosting and security providers, which process technical data such as IP addresses to deliver and protect the site.
- Google Fonts, which delivers the typefaces used on this site and receives your IP address when the fonts load.
We do not sell personal information.
6. Commercial electronic messages (CASL)
Canada’s Anti-spam Legislation (CASL) governs commercial emails and other electronic messages. Our practice is as follows.
- We send marketing or promotional messages only if you have given express consent, or if the law allows us to rely on implied consent. Implied consent can arise, for example, from an inquiry you make to us (it lasts six months from the inquiry) or from an existing business relationship (it lasts two years after your last transaction with us).
- We will not add you to a newsletter or mailing list unless you opt in. Any consent checkbox on our forms is left unticked by default.
- Every commercial message identifies Lumos CPA, includes our contact information and contains a working unsubscribe option. We act on unsubscribe requests without delay and in any case within ten business days.
- Replying to your inquiry, scheduling a meeting you requested, or sending you information about services you have engaged us for are not marketing messages.
To unsubscribe from any message, use the link in it or email info@lumoscpa.co.
7. How long we keep information
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above and as required by law and professional standards. Client records are retained for the periods that tax and professional record-keeping rules require, and are then securely destroyed or de-identified. Inquiry details from people who do not become clients are kept only for as long as reasonably useful and then deleted.
8. How we protect it
We use reasonable safeguards, including access controls, two-factor authentication on key systems, encrypted connections and reputable service providers. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so please keep the limits in section 2 in mind.
9. Your rights
You may ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or withdraw your consent. Email info@lumoscpa.co and we will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. If you are in Quebec, you may have additional rights under provincial law, and you are welcome to contact us about them.
10. Website terms
- General information only. The content on this website is general in nature. It is not accounting, tax, legal or financial advice, and you should not act on it without advice that considers your own situation.
- No client relationship by default. Visiting this site, booking a meeting or emailing us does not create a client relationship. A client relationship begins only when we agree in writing, usually through an engagement letter.
- Accuracy. We aim to keep information current, but tax rules, thresholds and prices change, and we do not guarantee that every statement on this site is complete or current. Prices shown, if any, are subject to the terms of an engagement.
- Professional designations. Lumos CPA Professional Corporation and its professionals are regulated by CPA Ontario. The CPA Ontario name and logo are used to show our registration and remain the property of CPA Ontario.
